Somera Esperanto-Studado (SES) took place August 9-17, 2008 with the first real-world lernu!-meeting. The small Slovakian town Modra-Harmónia (only 30 km from the capital Bratislava) hosted the event. There were 105 people from 25 countries, with quite an age range, from 3 months old to a 90-year-old Esperantist.
The program had several parts:
Esperanto instruction was led by 5 experienced Esperanto teachers in 5 groups, divided by language level: Bertilo Wennergren (SE), Birke Dockhorn (DE), Petra Smideliusz (HU), Dalia Pileckienė (LT) and Stano Marček (SK).
At the end of the event, the participants received certificates for the 26-hour course based on the levels of the new framework from A1 to C1.
The lernu!-events were run by the entire core lernu!-team. There were various lectures about lernu.net, about the site's translation system, and a work group about the future of the project. The team members were available for users during the entire week for discussion, questions, and any kind of proposals about the website.
The lernu!-part of the program was financially supported by ESF (Esperantic Studies Foundation), which also financed the creation and maintainance of www.lernu.net and several other projects of E@I.
Becuae this was the first real-world lernu!-meeting, at the end of the event we distributed questionnaires to see if it would be worthwhile arranging more such meetings and how to do it better. The respondents were without exception extremely happy about the event and a majority hoped to come to a similar event next year. Therefore SES 2009 is already being organized, and will most likely take place a week before IJK (Internacia Junulara Kongreso) in Liberec, Czech Republic. That way the participants can first improve their Esperanto knowledge and then immediately afterward use it at one of the most popular traditional Esperanto youth events.

A short video report about the event can be viewed at the website of Benio from Ireland, for whom SES was his first Esperanto event.
